Lawrence's Story

Grad VNHS W'64 "Ardeurians" With that God-awful blue Sr. sweater even my younger sisters wouldn't wear. (LOL) Was with the ROTC group that included Tim Stott, Lee Sprague, Dave Borenstein, Larry Cool, Bill Combs, Greg Erskine, and quite a few others. Also part of the group in Dr. Bessey's & Dr. Feif's chem classes. Remember English Lit with Dr. Fresius? Pierce Jr. College 1964-'65 (failing out at that time). US Army 1965-'68 (enlisted 4 yrs - combat infantry by choice) Joined because I was a 19 yr old "know-it-all" & knew I'd be drafted Training at Ft. Polk, LA, Ft. Gordon, GA and finally at Ft. Benning, GA - Germany 1965-'66 (8th Infantry Division, HHC-1-13 INF) - Viet Nam 1966-'67 (1st Infantry Division "Big Red One" C-1-18 INF) Rifle squad leader & platoon SGT in a combat infantry company - Ft. Benning, GA 1967-'68 (197th Infantry Brigade, B-1-58 INF) Army was the single best thing I ever did. Taught me that if you want something you MUST earn it first. Set the stage for my life philosophy and direction even today. Has served me very well. Pierce College 1968-70 Literally had to beg to get readmitted after my "stellar" performance...Expand for more
